Intelligent Energy Application Tool

Designing and retrofitting old buildings with historical and architectural value requires a whole building approach. This approach is different from the traditional design/build process, as the design team has to examine the integration of all building components and systems and to determine how they best work together to save energy and reduce environmental impact.

In the frame of SECHURBA project we designed and worked out a decision tool, based on preferences of an expert panel to evaluate the compatibility of the re-functionalisation.
The objectives one can reach, using the Intelligent Energy Application Tool are:

- to analyze the link between utilisation and conservation of the monuments
- to develop evaluation models of the potential sustainable energy adaptation of historical buildings.

The Intelligent Energy Application Tool uses a multicriterial approach for the evaluation of the compatibility of energy measures in historical buildings. It is designed on the base of following perceptions:

- It is possible to integrate energy saving technologies and renewable energy sources (RES) in the modern society with respect to the cultural and architectural value of the historical buildings;

- Protection of historical monuments and the transformation of ancient buildings into low energy units can go together very well;

- Tools to aid the decision how to integrate new functions,materials and techniques are not available

Our Tool was created in order to help engineers and architects to evaluate aesthetic and sustainable application in historic buildings and monuments.
